The Vision

The same vision – across the globe

Hallingelille is a member of GEN (Global Ecovillage Network),
a network of eco-communities worldwide.
The purpose of GEN is to create alternatives to modern consumer society. The communities are inspired by social, ecological and/or spiritual innovations. GEN promotes human values and works actively on finding solutions to society’s problems.
Sustainability and social equality are not academic questions, but very real ones.

Denmark has been a forerunner in the ecologic development and Hallingelille wishes to contribute to the continuation and strengthening of this position.

We wish to create a settlement, which can frame a new kind of lifestyle for people who want to:

· be part of a community
· live in harmony with nature
· work towards becoming an example of the vision for Agenda 21

The village will be built in accordance with the surrounding nature and will contribute to the natural balance by raising a forest on large parts of the former fields of Hallingebjerg. We will also grow vegetables and fruit for our own consumption.

In thought and action we will strive towards:

· equality, togetherness and love
· respect for the spirituality of each individual
· respect for all life
· respect for the earth

Permaculture is an amalgam of the words ”permanent” and ”agriculture”, but are now used more broadly for permanent cultures, i.e. sustainable manmade systems.

Permaculture is a design principle. Before designing one acquires an intimate knowledge of the designated area. This happens through observation and mapping of conditions and potentials, human as well as natural.

Permaculture is based on an ethics of:

· care for the earth
· care for humans and animals
· equal distribution of ressources

- and we work with the following principles:

  • work with nature, not against it (use natural flows)
  • create systems, which produce more energy than they consume
  • work with regenerating the earth
  • cooperate through cross-disciplinary networks
  • local circulation of matter
  • global exchange of knowledge and ideas
  • distribution of surplus
  • focus on that which is possible
  • cooperation without competition
